Morocco is strengthening its fresh produce exports to the UK and Europe through increased production, improved water infrastructure and expanded logistics networks.

The country has grown its presence in the UK markets for tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, sweet peppers and mandarins, with sweet pepper exports reportedly reaching a record 8,100 tonnes last year.

The Souss region, which accounts for about 90% of Morocco’s production of key export crops, is benefiting from new water infrastructure, including a desalination project supplying more than 15,000 hectares of farmland.

Logistics are also improving. More than 80% of Morocco’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports pass through Tanger Med, while direct refrigerated shipping services from Agadir and Casablanca to the UK and Europe are helping reduce transit times.

The developments are aimed at strengthening Morocco’s position as a major supplier of fresh produce to European markets.
