The Edo State Government has urged residents to buy unripe fruit and crops and let them ripen naturally at home.
It said that using chemicals to preserve and ripen fruit and crops can cause cancer and other diseases.
The Management Committee of the Edo State Consumer Protection Committee, in a statement, encouraged residents to start cultivating fruit and leafy vegetables at home to ensure safety and avoid unwarranted sickness and disease.
The statement said that anyone found using harmful chemicals to preserve or ripen fruit and crops should be reported to the Committee immediately.
“The Committee is committed to protecting the health and well-being of Edo people, which is in line with the SHINE Agenda of His Excellency, distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State.
